Comprising singles, couples and families, these neighbourhoods are exemplified by council and housing association tenants. However some of the types within this group are mortgagees. Situated in less well-off suburbs and small towns they typically reside in low rise flats, semi-detachedand terraces. Poorly educated, these residents are mainly employed in low paid unskilled and blue collar occupations, with some working in offices. There are many households with a single income, some of those being single parents.
These are mainly urban areas with some residents located on the fringes of major towns. We see a large proportion of younger residents living in smaller than average homes. Although in the main housing amongst these neighbourhoods is privately owned there are significant proportions of both housing association and privately rented properties.
The majority of the housing in these areas is made up of terraces with some semi-detached properties featuring.
These are multi-ethnic areas where singles live alongside family households. These communities are characterised by a considerable student population living alongside blue collar semi-skilled and unskilled workers. We also observe a larger than average number of parents choosing to stay at home with the family.
